Oregon is an Our contries jazz and world music group, with core members Ralph Towner (guitar, piano, synthesizer, trumpet), Paul McCandless (woodwind instruments), and Glen Moore (double bass, violin, piano).
Townsman, McCandless, Moore, & Collin Walcott (percussion, sitar, tabla) met as members of globe music pioneer Paul Winter's "Consort" ensemble in the late 1960s. It broke out of Winter within 1970 to form their have class action, Oregon, which it known as when Townsman's & Moore's residence state. It recorded their foremost record around 1970, however a label, Increase Records, went away from business prior to it can be freed. (It wwhen freed by Vanguard around 1980 as My Foremost Record.) A class action's foremost release was Music of A second Present Era within 1972. Thereupon debut & its watch-ups Distant Hills & Winter Weak (a lot in Vanguard), Oregon established itself when one of a leading improvisational groups of its day, merging Indian and Western classical music with jazz, folk, and avant-garde elements. A class actiin discharged many albums on Vanguard throughout a Seventies, so processed tercet records for Elektra. Fallowing two or three years hiatus devoted to their single projects, a class action resumed recording for ECM in 1983.
When you took the 1984 concert tour, Walcott was flushed inside an car accident around East Germany. Oregon temporarily disbanded, however reformed by 1987 to record Ecotopia (its final album for ECM) by having recently percussionist Trilok Gurtu.
